INITIATIVES
The handover of 650 pieces of basic plating for bulletproof vests was attended by Adam Wajda, Director of the Infrastructure Development Division of Eko-Okna S.A., Adam Gawęda, Member of the Polish Parliament, and Col. Tomasz Białas, representative of the Territorial Defense Forces Command.
Adam Wajda thanked the soldiers for their service, for which they found time despite their daily work and many other professional and family responsibilities. He emphasised that it is unusual when a company operating in business supports such a venture.
"This initiative came from Mr Mateusz Kłosek, the owner and President of the Board of Eko-Okna. Not only do we expect the military to provide security, but we are doing something of our own to support them through, among other things, donations of equipment. I also encourage other companies to support the military,” Wajda appealed.
Participants at the event recalled that two funds were established in Poland in the interwar period: The Sea Defense Fund and the National Defense Fund. It was from such donations by citizens that the ORP Eagle, the famous symbol of resistance, among others, was financed.
"I am glad that we are forerunners, and I hope that we will return to the interwar tradition when entrepreneurs and citizens supported the army by equipping military units with equipment,” said Col. Białas. "This is a very touching moment for me as a commander and a soldier,” he added.
"This is the first initiative of its kind in Poland. I think it will be a good impulse for others to participate in such activities. Let it be a model for local communities and entrepreneurs who value their current activities and set goals. None will be possible to achieve if we are not properly secured,” said Adam Gawęda, a Member of the Polish Parliament. "Your good preparation is our security,” he added.
Colonel Tomasz Białas handed over thanks to Director Adam Wajda and a historical emblem of the 13th Silesian Brigade of Territorial Defence modelled on the one of the Wawelberg Group, whose commander is the Brigade's patron.
Five employees of Eko-Okna are soldiers of the Silesian Territorial Defense Brigade. "This is the kind of node where all the ideas of territorial defence related to the citizen-soldier ready to serve not only through work but also additional support in the form of service or donation of equipment for defence are combined. Thank you very much for this initiative,” Col. Białas concluded.
